Current Information:Born-Deptford Bethune Town Cemetery, France 17th King’s Royal Rifle Corps arrived in France in March, 1916 as part of 117 Brigade, 39th Division and after the requisite period of trench instruction under the tutelage of more seasoned battalions, they took over a sector of the front line in the Festubert-La Bassée area of France. John Benfield died of wounds on 4th June, 1916, but the Battalion Diary gives no information as to where and when he was wounded. |
